Horns of Plenty

Oxford's community street band

Lockdown Sing-along (May Morning 2020)

One of the great traditions of this great city of ours is to celebrate May Morning, with the choir singing from the top of Magdalen College tower at 6.00am to welcome in the spring. It was not possible in 2020, but Horns of Plenty still celebrated the coming of Spring, and our wonderful and diverse range of key workers in our community in and around Oxford.

On Friday 1st May at 8.00am Horns of Plenty band members, together with friends, neighbours and other musicians played ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ all over the city from our own doorsteps, windows and pavements all across the city.

We chose to play ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ because it has existing links to the Corona virus community, links to last year’s May Morning choir singing and to celebrate the diversity of our great city. More than ever this year the lyrics seem apt.

Over 100 streets across Oxford took part. See which streets they were
